Favorite Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloons – Round One

Macy’s has been hosting Thanksgiving Day Parades since 1924 and balloons were introduced in 1928.

Most of the balloons are either novelty or character balloons. The most widely known type of balloon is the full-size balloon class, the majority of which are licensed pop-culture characters. Each of these is handled by 90 people. We’re voting on the balloons, not the characters — if that makes a difference to you.

There weren’t quite enough to do a mega-bracket, so I had reduce the list by over 100 to make this double bracket of “only” 128. This process involved a ton of examining pictures and evaluating the obscurity/familiarity of each one. I did try to leave some of the old ones. 🙂

This is still a Double Bracket, so it’s twice as big as normal. Please make sure you have enough time to complete the voting in one sitting.

As far as organizing this bracket goes, I couldn’t find any good way to group these into brackets, so I found a couple online lists of “best” or “favorites” and seeded those in the #1, #2, etc. spots to spread them out, and then I randomized the rest. Sorry if your favorites got matched up too early.

Vote now in Round One! The deadline is Tuesday evening, November 9.
