Some interesting results in Round One. The winners were definitely NOT all the parks that have the most visitors. In fact, two of the #1-ranked parks lost to the #16-ranked ones.
Several of the contests were won by ONE VOTE:
- Denali actually tied American Samoa, so Denali took it because of its higher rank
- Crater Lake beat North Cascades by one vote
- Bryce Canyon beat Canyonlands by one vote
- Petrified Forest beat Devil’s Tower by just four votes
There were some definite favorites and landslides, too:
- Glacier beat Lake Clark 96%-4%
- Redwood beat Katmai 94%-6%
- Grand Canyon beat Great Basin 94%-6%
- Yosemite beat Pinnacles 93%-7%
- Yellowstone beat Guadalupe Mountains 89%-11%
- Grand Teton beat Voyageurs 87%-13%
- Mount Rainier beat Kobuk Valley 86%-14%
- Appalachian Scenic Trail beat Congaree 85%-15%
