Most of the winners in the third round were predictable, but there were a few surprises.
Living Doll beat Stopover in a Quiet Town by one vote.
The Midnight Sun beat The Shelter by nine votes.
All four of those are pretty popular and won the first two rounds by very healthy margins.
Interestingly enough, there were no gigantic wins this round. Everything is getting closer and more even. In past rounds, we’ve had some episodes that only got 8% or 15% of the vote. In this Third Round, the biggest margin of victory was Nightmare at 20,000 Feet beating Ring-a-Ding Girl 80% to 20%. Very close to that was To Serve Man beating Little Girl Lost 79% to 21%. Most of the others were roughly 2/3 to 1/3.
The writers of the remaining sixteen episodes were:
- Rod Serling – 13 (5 based on other writers’ works: Lyn Venable, Lucille Fletcher, Damon Knight, Jerome Bixby, & Michael D. Rosenthal)
- George Clayton Johnson – 1
- Richard Matheson – 1
- Charles Beaumont – 1
Granted, Rod Serling wrote 60% of the episodes either in full or the teleplay based on another work, but he has 81% of the Sweet Sixteen episodes. He must have been doing something right.
Vote now in the Sweet Sixteen Round! The deadline is Wednesday night, January 15.
